Orleans & South Shore Harbor Marina Redevelopment Plan

Re-envisioning historic marinas in New Orleans that respond to the market and its users.

The New Orleans Lakefront Management Authority is charged with the management of two large marinas on the New Orleans Lake Pontchartrain waterfront. Bookending the public waterfront and approximately 6 miles apart, each marina has its own unique market. Orleans Marina, built in the 1950’s, offers 351 slips, 65 boathouses, and 4 marine service facilities. South Shore Harbor Marina, developed in the 1980’s, has 447 slips as well as 26 covered slips. Aged infrastructure, storm damage, changing demographics, and future needs demanded a full Market Analysis and Concept Planning effort. Edgewater completed a regional market analysis to document existing demand, slip availability, current market rates, and estimate the capacity of the facilities. Proposed solutions consider funding and operational strategies that address the existing marina boaters’ highest priorities, increase facility revenue, and expand the marina’s reach into the market. Specific actions were recommended and are now underway.
